EV Technologies, Inc. is pleased to introduce Sherlock – Universe Inspector (UI). Sherlock CI has already provided the foundation of system analysis by providing deep inspection of the BusinessObjects CMS. Sherlock UI is a powerful new addition, which provides analysis tools to extract key metadata about universes within the BusinessObjects platform. Coupled with Sherlock CI and BusinessObjects Auditor data, BusinessObjects administrators and database administrators have a powerful suite of tools to maintain the health of the BusinessObjects platform.

With Sherlock UI administrators, developers, and release managers have the capabilities to:

• Perform impact analysis across all universes on all BusinessObjects deployments in the event of column or table level change

How Does Sherlock UI Work?

Leveraging the BusinesObjects Universe SDK, Sherlock UI does the hard part, mapping the data held deep within each universe to a relational database that can be easily understood.

Like Sherlock CI, Sherlock UI resides as a Program Job Server object, scheduled at the interval you choose, to collect the universe data and load it in the database of choice (Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL supported). Similar to Sherlock CI, the recommended approach is to allow this data to reside side by side with your BusinessObjects Auditor data. This allows seamless integration of the two subject areas to create a rich set of information to be analyzed.

The frequency in which your Sherlock UI database is refreshed is based on your own needs and requirements. Sherlock UI provides a snapshot of your universes on each execution so that any reporting or review takes place in an offline capacity, with no further impact to your environment.
